| KUALA LUMPUR: AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd has launched the AIA Penyala Harapan Scholarship Programme, an RM1.6 million education initiative to empower Malaysian youth through access to higher education.
The programme, announced recently, is funded through donations contributed by AIA PUBLIC Takaful certificate participants and channelled into the AIA Penyala Harapan Charity Fund, a dedicated fund established to support charitable initiatives that uplift communities nationwide.
INAUGURAL COHORT TO GET RM1.6 MILLION
In partnership with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) via its IIUM Endowment Fund (IEF) Division, the scholarship will support 20 first-year degree students in its inaugural cohort. Eligible programmes include Islamic Banking, Islamic Finance and Law, with financial assistance covering tuition fees and living expenses for the full duration of study of up to four years. Scholars may also be offered internship opportunities with AIA PUBLIC Takaful, subject to fulfilling academic and programme requirements.
AIA PUBLIC Takaful chief executive officer Mohd Asri Omar said the initiative reflects AIA's belief that education is a key driver of long-term well-being."At AIA, our purpose is to help people live healthier, longer, better lives, and we believe education is a powerful way to achieve that," he said."With IIUM as our partner, we're focused on nurturing students who are driven by passion and purpose, empowering them to take charge of their futures and make a positive impact," he added.
SHARED SYARIAH VALUES
Mohd Asri said the scholarship is the first initiative enabled by the AIA Penyala Harapan Charity Fund and reflects the company's Total Shariah Solutions proposition, guided by the principles of Maqasid Syariah.
"It demonstrates that takaful is more than just a protection plan — it carries a deeper purpose. Through one of its key pillars, Berkat Sama-sama, our product solutions enable customers to embrace the spirit of togetherness by donating their surplus for the greater good of society," he shared.
He expressed appreciation to certificate holders whose contributions made the programme possible.
"We are honoured to be entrusted by our customers to channel these contributions towards helping young Malaysians pursue their academic aspirations and build purposeful careers," he added.
IIUM AS A STRATEGIC PARTNER
IIUM was selected as a strategic partner due to its strong academic standing as Malaysia's leading Islamic university and one of the top Islamic institutions globally, with Islamic values embedded across all disciplines.
Deputy rector for student development and community engagement Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Fauzan Noordin welcomed the collaboration, describing education as a powerful force for transformation.
"At IIUM, we are committed to nurturing well-rounded graduates who embody both academic excellence and strong ethical values," he said. This scholarship will help our students pursue their academic goals and realise their full potential while contributing to the advancement of Islamic finance and other key sectors," he explained.
Scholar selection will be based on academic performance, financial need and clear future aspirations, with the IEF Division responsible for shortlisting candidates, providing academic mentorship and monitoring student progress throughout their studies.
Eligible students who have secured admission into the specified IIUM degree programmes are encouraged to apply through the university's IEF Division or visit the AIA Official Website for more information. |
