| KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia aims to create 700,000 new job opportunities in the manufacturing sector and an additional 500,000 career opportunities in the digital economy in the next five years.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) today, said to encourage youth participation, the government will introduce the Skim Pembiayaan Perkasa TVET Madani and the TVET Training Fund.
"Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes will be expanded to include tahfiz students, with the goal of producing Madani huffaz technocrats equipped with added technical expertise," he said.
Anwar said that to support the growth of targeted industries, the development of highly skilled human capital would remain a national priority.
"To achieve this, strengthening and aligning efforts across agencies such as the Higher Education Ministry, Education Ministry, Human Resources Ministry, Rural and Regional Development Ministry, and Mara will be intensified.
"Close collaboration between TVET institutions and industry will serve as a catalyst for knowledge transfer and upskilling, as currently practised by the Higher Education Ministry," he added.
He said the delivery of TVET programmes would also be re-strategised, with a stronger focus on high-growth, high-value (HGHV) sectors and advanced technology, in line with labour market demands to support industrial needs.
"With this holistic approach, Malaysia is aiming to rank among the world's top 20 in the Global Innovation Index—an important benchmark of the nation's global competitiveness."
The five-year 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), covering the period from 2026 to 2030, provides a strategic framework for the country's economic, social, and environmental priorities.
The plan comes as Malaysia navigates an increasingly complex global environment and embarks on an ambitious domestic reform agenda.
The 13MP will also serve as a key policy platform for the unity government, which has anchored much of its governance on the principles of the Madani Economy.
Previously, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the 13MP reflected the government's commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable economic foundation over the next five years. |
