Abstract :
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 4,165 Indian Malaysian students from public and private institutions of higher learning have been identified as eligible to receive financial assistance under the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra). Mitra has already begun disbursing funds for the aid, under the IPT 5.0 programme, on a phased basis from April 9.   The unit, which now falls under the Human Resources Ministry, said the full list of recipients would be uploaded to its official portal and social media pages from today. The programme is aimed at easing the financial burden of Indian Malaysian students, particularly at the point of entry into higher education. To qualify, applicants must be from B40 households, be enrolled in diploma or bachelor's degree programmes, be first-year students for the 2025/2026 academic session, and have submitted complete application documents.   The ministry said it was now under new leadership, with Raveendran Nair having assumed the role of director-general on March 24, in line with the agency's restructuring. Mitra said programme implementation would be streamlined and carried out in a more orderly manner in compliance with prevailing governance standards. "Mitra reaffirms its continued commitment to ensuring more inclusive and equitable educational opportunities, in line with efforts to develop a competitive and highly skilled human capital," the agency said in a statement.   Students with enquiries about the programme may contact Mitra officers at 03-88866192 between 9am and 5pm on working days, or write to spl@mitra.gov.my.
