| KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib, has received the Malaysian Outstanding Education Icon Leadership Excellence Award.
The award was presented to him at the 9th Malaysian Education & Learning Summit 2026 at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur today.
The ceremony was officiated by Education Ministry deputy director-general (policy and curriculum sector) Dr Rusmini Ku Ahmad, who represented Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
The award recognised Shahrin's role in strengthening institutional direction, advancing academic excellence and supporting broader education development through inclusive and innovation-driven leadership.
Shahrin said leadership in higher education goes beyond administrative responsibilities.
"Leadership in higher education is about creating impact beyond the university, including nurturing individuals who were resilient, ethical and ready to contribute to society," he said.
Under his leadership, UiTM continued to strengthen its position as one of Malaysia's largest public universities, focusing on governance, talent development and inclusive access to higher education.
UiTM said the recognition reflects its continued efforts to uphold excellence in leadership, governance and institutional impact, while reaffirming its commitment to advancing innovation and transformation in the higher education sector.
The summit was organised by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI) in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities and the National Association of Private Educational Institutions. |
